Microneedling Benefits
During microneedling, a special, handheld pen-like device with multiple tiny needles penetrates the skin in rapid succession to a precise depth. This “micro” injury to the skin creates a controlled injury which stimulates the body’s healing response to produce new collagen and elastin.
The procedure improves elasticity, texture, wrinkles, post inflammatory redness, and pigmentation from acne or other injury, as well as scars. The small punctures made by the needles also provide channels for personalized, advanced serums and other active ingredients to penetrate the skin more deeply to bring about the desired results for the specific treatment goal.
Microneedling helps with a variety of skin concerns, including:
- Scars - Microneedling can fade acne scarring, surgical scars, and other scars by stimulating collagen production with precise injury, which promotes the skin to heal and remodel itself.
- Wrinkles and Fine Lines - Microneedling can treat fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin production.
- Uneven Skin Tone - The superficial nature of the injury causes an exfoliation or peeling which evens the tone while making the complexion appear more radiant.
- Blackheads and Large Pores - Microneedling opens pores and helps release those clogged blackheads through the exfoliation or peeling process. Enlarged pores will “shrink” when the surrounding skin produces extra collagen yielding more support around the pores, thus shrinking them.
- Stretch Marks - Microneedling helps minimize the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen and elastin production, which can result in firmer, smoother, more even toned skin.

Microneedling FAQs
Does microneedling hurt?
We carefully disinfect the skin and use a topical anesthetic that temporarily numbs the area(s) targeted by the procedure. Usually, there is no discomfort. Our aestheticians can adjust the depth of needle penetration based on your skin type, tolerance, and treatment goals.
What are the side effects of microneedling?
Microneedling is considered safe and doesn’t carry the risk of skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation like other facial rejuvenation procedures that use heat, light, or lasers. Temporary side effects may include minor swelling and inflammation, redness, and skin flaking; all signs that the treatment is working. It’s that same inflammation and healing response—including increased collagen and elastin production—that results in the growth of a new remodeled skin with a more even skin tone, a renewed firmness, and a radiant, glowing appearance.
What do you recommend after microneedling treatment for best results?
After your treatment, we will send you home with a personalized, post-procedure treatment plan to speed up and optimize your healing time. Most clients recover completely from their treatment within 7 to 10 days. In addition to refraining from using certain skin care products (like retinoids and acids), it is mandatory to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen as the procedure causes sun sensitivity.
Should everyone get microneedling?
Some clients are not good candidates for microneedling. Those who fall under the following categories should avoid microneedling:
- Active acne or breakouts
- A sunburn or recent tan
- A current skin infection including fever blisters. If a patient is prone to fever blisters, an antiviral medicine, such as valcyclovir should be started a few days before the procedure to prevent an outbreak and continued during the healing process.
- Treatment with oral isotretinoin, a medication called accutane that treats severe acne. (Microneedling requires months between your last isotretinoin dose and a microneedling session.)
If any of these apply to you, we’ll happily work with you to combine helpful treatments, a daily skincare routine, and a timeline until we can schedule your first appointment.
A pretreatment protocol will be instituted several weeks in advance of the microneedling procedure. Following these guidelines will insure that the treatment is successful at achieving one’s goals
